Some regions in Germany have been experiencing an unusually severe drought in recent years, leading to a concerning decrease in groundwater levels. However, this is not solely a result of the drought, as other factors such as petrified soil and increasing groundwater pollution have become a growing issue.

Gunter Wistenhoff, who has been utilizing water divining techniques for years, says:

“The Earth is increasingly experiencing drought, and now we need to dig deeper to access water.”

His technology, despite its inability to be explained, proves its effectiveness. Matters have expanded to include disputes over water rights, and in the municipality of Bergtheim in Bavaria, the mayor is making an effort to reconcile between consumers and farmers who require larger quantities of water for their crops.

According to the mayor, Konrad Schlier says:

“In the hot months, when everyone needs large amounts of water, local wells are not sufficient for everyone.”

The long-range water pipeline is expected to play a role in solving the problem, but the costs will be borne by the consumers.

Andreas Bauer, the specialized engineer in water exploration consultancy, finds himself now in high demand, he says:

“Customers have become aware of the magnitude of the crisis.”

Many cities are now seeking to prepare for increasingly frequent drought periods and are digging new wells.

Inspired by hydrogeological maps and estimates of groundwater flows, geologists recommend locations for prospecting for water.

In northern Germany, regions are facing challenges related to water collection, and these challenges are not solely due to climate change. In parts of Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia, the upper groundwater has become unsuitable for use due to the impact of chemicals and nitrates resulting from liquid manure and fermentation residues.

Egon Harmss, from the Oldenburg and East Frisia Water Authority, believes that:

“We must dig deeper distances to obtain water, thus ensuring the sustainability of use for ten years before this soil becomes unsuitable for use as well.”

Harms adds that Germany is facing accusations of violating the European Union agreement due to non-compliance with the allowed limit of nitrates in significant parts of the country since 2014. Although this law is considered new, some parties consider it insufficient.

There are many countries witnessing a decline in water quality and facing even greater threats than drought and increasing heat, such as nitrate pollution and agricultural chemicals.

Despite Germany’s progress and wealth, it is not an exception to this global challenge. However, the country is making significant efforts to address this issue and seek innovative solutions.
